Golf Fitness: Dispelling Myths & Keeping You on the Course
Staying healthy and injury-free is valuable in all areas of life, including your golf game! No matter how often you hit the links, what your handicap is, or how old you are, every golfer should understand the way your body moves in a game, how it impacts your efficiency of play, and the risks for injury. This program will help take your golf game to the next level by identifying and eliminating physical barriers in movement. To help people play stronger, without pain, and in longer timeframes, The Ohio State Sports Medicine Golf Performance team is making it their mission to educate, train, and develop players of all skill levels on the importance of the fit golfing athlete. Playing or practicing too much golf can result in overuse injuries. Even if you don’t golf frequently, poor technique can result in injury. If a player lacks either stability or mobility, his or her body will compensate by trying to make up for the deficiencies. This may ultimately create an inefficient golf swing that will lack power and consistency, and potentially result in injury. Specific golf-related injuries and issues that can emerge include: • Disc injuries • Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) of the hip • Ligament injuries • Lower back pain/injuries • Muscle strain and sprains • Overuse injuries To avoid these detrimental situations, come and learn useful self-assessments of the body as it relates to swing characteristics, apply quick corrective exercises to your workout regimen, and receive a pre-round warm-up to use before you set up in the tee box. Improving your fitness will not guarantee that you play the game of golf any better. However, with a mobile, stronger, and stable body, you can play more frequently and improve movement deficiencies that have plagued your game.
