Northeast Columbus Spring & Summer Clean Up Events
Northeast Columbus and New Albany are beautiful communities that are composed of many hills, streams, ponds, parks, walking and biking paths. In all of today's environmental green initiatives, litter seems to be getting left out of the messages per Rob Wallace, Vice President of Communications for Keep America Beautiful (KAB). Hazardous materials encapsulated within illegally dumped rubbish (cigarette butts, glass, styrofoam, plastic, tires, batteries) leaches into water sources, contaminates the soil and may pollute the air if burned. Litter is often carried off by the wind or rain into storm drains and eventually to streams, rivers and to the ocean. Due to the litter being in the water ways, it could lead to some harmful effects for animals and humans as litter leads to acid rain. There is only one Earth and as a community we need to come together to reduce the amount of pollution on our planet. The second Saturdays of April, May and June from 10 am to noon will be dedicated in Northeast Columbus and New Albany for litter clean-up events. There are 19 neighborhoods connected on Nextdoor in which details of these events will be made available. If you are not on Nextdoor, you can register at nextdoor.com. You are welcome to contact reneemallett@gmail.com for event details. Many Central Ohio companies and families have participated in the City of Columbus Adopt an Area Program.
