DESCRIPTION:Laura received a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Oil Painting from Bowling Green State University in 1997. While there she developed a passion for creating art by hand and this passion has stayed with her over the years. Shortly after college Laura moved to Atlanta\, Georgia and spent several years working as an art consultant for various galleries. She returned to making art after taking a workshop six years ago in Columbus. Laura starting experimenting with her designs and fell in love with the look and textures of mixed media\, specifically beeswax collage art. She began teaching herself the art of Encaustic Painting and hasn't looked back since. Painting with melted beeswax gives her the ability to combine paper products\, paint\, ink\, beads\, threads\, pressed flowers and many other objects that she holds dear. You will often see incised lines filled with oil paint and shimmering powders laid upon layers and layers of wax. She enjoys the versatility and unexpected surprises she discovers with the art of encaustic painting. It allows her the freedom to create distinctive\, ethereal pieces.
