DESCRIPTION:On February 10th\, Healthy New Albany is privileged to hear from J. Nwando Olayiwola*\, MD\, MPH\, and gain her insight on the very complex topics of diversity\, racism\, and the experience of being a first-generation immigrant. As a family physician and Chair of the OSU Department of Family Medicine\, Dr. Olayiwola will discuss her thoughts on why racism is a public health concern and how race impacts health and wellbeing. As a black woman and first-generation immigrant\, Dr. Olayiwola will also share her own experiences with racism\, xenophobia\, and identity confusion. We are very excited to learn from Dr. Olayiwola and invite you to join us for this important conversation! \n\n\n\nJ. Nwando Olayiwola*\, MD\, MPH is a New Albany resident\, author\, and OSU Professor of Family Medicine. She is an experienced and internationally renowned family physician and health equity leader and was named Woman of the Year by the American Telemedicine Association in 2019. In addition to championing diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in healthcare and beyond\, she co-leads the Anti-Racism Action Plan at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Olayiwola has authored four books\, including: "Minority Women Professionals (MWP's) are MVPs!" (2016) and "Papaya Head: The Life Cycles of a First-Generation Daughter" (2018).
