Part of Innovate New Albany's TIGER Talks series: This talk will cut right to chase: actions and policies that budget-conscious small businesses should have in place to create intellectual property and increase the total value of a company, gain an edge over competitors, and mitigate or avoid disaster. Most small businesses loathe to contact lawyers because they act as an expensive risk-mitigation service, hedging against future what-ifs instead of increasing a business's value. Patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets are different: those assets are a positive addition to your company which can increase your bottom line. You should know how to be proactive and take advantage of the intellectual property system for your company without breaking the bank. Our speaker, Brian Finch, is an associate at Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP. Brian started a small business 10 years ago with his family a company which now sells thousands of products annually at almost every major retailer in the United States. Growing up around inventors led to Brian's passion for intellectual property, and now he aims to help other small businesses navigate the complex world of patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law.
