“As of Monday, July 8th, Versiti Blood Center of Ohio has issued an Emergency Appeal for Blood Donations. We urgently need our community's support to maintain a strong blood supply for patients in need. Some blood types have less than a day's availability, endangering the lives of local patients. Summer donations have significantly decreased, reaching a critical low last week, making it the lowest donation count of the year after the holiday weekend.

Without an adequate blood supply, the health and safety of patients who depend on life-saving transfusions are at risk. Hospitals may be forced to postpone surgeries or delay critical treatments. Patients undergoing organ transplants, battling cancer, or even mothers in labor could face treatment delays or complications due to the shortage. Trauma victims from car accidents or shootings are at the highest risk, as their survival often depends on a healthy blood inventory. If these types of cases occur in the coming days, we might not have the blood needed to keep them alive.”
