Trick or Treat New Albany
The City of New Albany will be joining many other central Ohio municipalities in following the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s recommended date of Thursday, October 31 (6-8 p.m.) for trick or treating. In the event of poor weather in the forecast, please follow our social media channels to stay updated with any changes to the trick or treat date.
Here are some Halloween safety tips to keep in mind:
Trick or Treaters and Treat Givers
- Trick or treat with members of your household or with a trusted adult.
- Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
- Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.
- Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. WALK and don’t run from house to house.
- Look both ways before crossing the street. Use crosswalks wherever possible.
- Be sure your parents always know where you are going to trick or treat.
- Do not ride a bicycle because your costume might get tangled in the wheels.
- Accept treats only outside of a home. Never go into a house.
- Turn off house lights if you are not participating this year.
- When buying costumes, look for flame retardant material.
- Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.
- Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods.
- Take extra time to look for kids at intersections and on medians and curbs.
- Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
- Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and surroundings.
- Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.
