Kiss Me, Kate
Presented by New Albany High School Drama Dept. A classic of musical theatre, the show was written in the late 1940's by famed composer and lyricist Cole Porter. Following the formula of a show within a show, Kiss Me, Kate tells the story of a theatre company premiering a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Director and star Frederic C. Graham, played by Senior Junho Moon, is frantically putting the final touches on the production before its impending premiere. His efforts are being stymied by the caprices of his egotistical ex-wife and co-star, Lilli Vanessi, who is brought to life by Senior Izzy Vendetti, whom he still loves. Adding to this romantic confusion, Graham is being pursued by gangsters who are seeking repayment of a gambling debt they believe he owes. As if this is not enough, mix in an exhausted ensemble who have been rehearsing for weeks and weeks, among other factors. On opening night, everything spirals out of control, and everyone must work together to ensure they will be able to finish the performance in this classic stage musical comedy from the Golden Age of the musical.
