Michelle Alexander: The New Jim Crow

Legal scholar Michelle Alexander will appear at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, located at 100 W. Dublin-Granville Rd. in New Albany, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00PM. Ms. Alexander has struck a chord in so-called ‘post racial’ America.  The Ohio State University law professor makes the case that the United States’ current criminal justice system policies can be traced directly back to slavery.  Those targeted now, as they were then, are African Americans. In this lecture, Ms. Alexander will talk about her book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. Tickets are $7 for adults and are available now. Students may attend the lecture for free, but must reserve a ticket in advance.
